Practice Manager and Administration Staff

Practice Manager

Deborah Gadd was appointed as Practice Manager in 2010. She had previously been employed as the Assistant Practice Manager since August 2003 and gained the Primary Care Management Diploma in October 2005. Her role is extremely broad, covering the overall business management of the Surgery, including strategic planning, financial control, human resources etc.

Secretaries

The practice has two part time secretaries, Julia Crofts and Sharon Shaddick.  Their main role is the typing and processing of GP referrals, including all Choose and Book and private referrals.

Lead Administrator

The Lead Administrator, Kay Thomas, joined Sunnyside Surgery in February 2011. She supports the Practice Manager and oversees the Admin Team. Her role is varied; her priority is maintaining the appointment system and ensuring that there is adequate GP cover when doctors are on annual/study leave. Other duties include helping with the Health and Safety for the Practice.

Reception and Administration Coordinator

The senior receptionist is Sue Weston who has been employed at Sunnyside since November 1991.  Sue manages the Receptionist team, giving support and training when necessary.  She is also responsible for the registering and removal of patients from the Practice list, making sure that all records are fully updated.  She also has other administrative duties.

Receptionists

We have eight receptionists who cover the Practice phones and reception desk from 8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.  They have a very difficult job in an extremely busy environment. Please be patient, they are there to help you and work to specific protocols laid down by the Practice Management. It may be necessary for the staff to ask questions regarding your request for an appointment; this is usually a request for you to describe any symptoms you may have. These questions will help staff direct you to the most appropriate service and if this appears urgent they will notify a doctor as soon as they can. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.

Administrative Staff

We have a small team of skilled admin clerks whose work includes the processing of repeat prescription requests and the scanning/coding of correspondence received in the Practice, as well as many other ‘back office’ clerical tasks that all contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Practice.
