Information for Carers

Do you look after a relative or a friend who, due to illness, disability, or the effects of age, cannot manage to live independently at home without your help? If the answer is ‘Yes’, you are a Carer!

Sunnyside Surgery has a Carer’s Champion, Jane Oakley, who can help provide you with information about the services and support groups that are available in the North Somerset area.

If you would like to speak to Jane at the Surgery or if you find it difficult to get to the Surgery but would like her to contact you, please telephone the surgery between 10:30 and 18:00 Monday to Friday and leave your contact details for her to call you back, or email Jane at reception.sunnyside@nhs.net

You can also telephone Care Connect at North Somerset Council on 01275 888 801 for advice or visit the North Somerset Council website for more information on the services available.  There is also a Community Connect service which helps people aged 50 and over to access services by providing information,  promoting independence and choice, information about this service is also available on the North Somerset Council website – www.n-somerset.gov.uk

Being a carer can be very difficult and involve juggling lots of responsibilities and emotions.  Sometimes this can feel overwhelming.  An organisation called Positive Step runs courses which can help people understand more about these difficulties and work with them to help find ways of tackling or coping with how they are feeling. Please visit www.positivestep.org.uk for more information or to book onto one of their courses.
