Diabetic Clinic and Dietitian

The Diabetes Clinics at the Surgery are run by our nurses, Chris Walsh and Jane Harvey who both have a Diabetes Diploma qualification. These clinics are for patients with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, Impaired Glucose Tolerance or Impaired Fasting Glycaemia. Clinics are held most Monday and Tuesday afternoons and additional appointments are available on some Thursday afternoons. You will be sent an annual appointment to have all aspects of your diabetes care checked and will be asked to come into the Surgery a week before your appointment date with the diabetes nurse for a blood test.  Patients with diabetes will have their bloods taken approximately every 3 to 6 months throughout the year. If you have been diagnosed with Impaired Glucose Tolerance or Impaired Fasting Glycaemia you will be recalled for an annual fasting blood sugar test.

There is also a monthly clinic run by a NHS trained Dietitian who sees patients, referred by a GP or Diabetes Nurse, for a dietary review.

The local Diabetic Eye Screening Service visits the Practice to carry out annual photographic eye screening of all patients over the age of 12 who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. For further information please visit the Bristol Community Health website at: www.briscomhealth.org.uk/our-services.
