Referrals to Secondary Care |
Hospital / Clinic Referrals
The majority of our referrals go through the Woodspring Referral
Support Service (RSS). This is a team of trained staff who will
look at the referral letter and decide whether it should be submitted to
the Choose and Book Service or direct to the relevant hospital. The RSS
team can be contacted on 01275 888960.
If sent to the Choose and Book Service, you will receive a letter
from them giving you a choice of providers, dates and times from which
you can select a convenient appointment. All related follow up
appointments will be sent to you from your chosen provider (eg
Southmead, BRI, etc).
If the referral was sent direct to a hospital, they will allocate you
an appointment and send you a letter confirming the date and time.
If your doctor feels that you need to be seen urgently and refers you
to the Bristol Royal Infirmary, further information about this process
can be found in their patient information leaflet ‘Understanding
the Urgent Referral Scheme’.
Private Referrals
You will need to find your own clinician via your insurance company
or by contacting a private hospital eg The Spire in Bristol. Your GP
will write a letter of referral to the clinician for you to send or take
with you to your consultant appointment.
